Class Wiki - SetupThis is a featured page

In this activity, you will develop your own class wiki which you will continuously update throughout the course. This is an optional component decided by your teacher. This wiki can be used as a continuous journal to track the terminology associated with information and communication technology gained throughout the course.

What is a Wiki you say?

  • Well, a wiki is a website that allows users to add, edit, remove or change content. Many people are able to modify the website at the same time.
  • The servers that allow people to set up wikis are called wiki farms.

Let's watch this video to learn a little bit more about how wikis work!

What are the benefits of using a Wiki?

  • Wikis allow a group of individuals to collaborate and communicate online through web-based interaction. People can build and share their knowledge.
  • It also eliminates the challenge of time and location as people can be connected from their home or office.

Let's make our own class wiki!!

This wiki will be used by our class to maintain a journal of all of the terminology we learn throughout the term. This will be very helpful when it comes to studying for our exam.

We will be using Wetpaint.com or Wikispaces.com to create our wiki.

Let's follow this step-by-step guide together to get our wiki up and running. This guide introduces us to the registration and basic formatting process. (Registration can be completed prior to class by instructor)

Don't forget:

After your wiki is set up, depending on the privacy settings you selected you will either:

a.) Intsruct students to join the site, or
b.)e-mail members of the class to invite them to join the site!

After registration is complete, you can:

1. Write a class introduction on the home page by using the edit function.
2. Add the subsequent pages "Group #1-15" (however many student pairs) and assign each pair of students a page.

Your page should look something like this...
